Steyn: It will be difficult to earn a Test spot

Cape Town -  Proteas fast bowler Dale Steyn admits that it will be "difficult" for him to be selected in the current Proteas Test squad.

Steyn has not played for the Proteas since the New Year's Test against India in January this year during which he injured his heel.

He was also ruled out of the third Test match between South Africa and Australia, which begins at Newlands on Thursday, March 22.

The 34-year-old will be targeting the Titans' following clash against the Knights in Centurion also starting on March 22.

He is expecting to be fit for the fourth and final Test against Australia, which is scheduled to get under way on March 30 at the Wanderers

Speaking to SABC commentator Kass Naidoo, Steyn said that it'll be difficult to earn to his spot in the Test team.

"I'm doing really well, it's a bit of a race against time to get ready for these Test matches," said Steyn.

"Now it seems, if I even win that race, that it's going to be difficult to even make the team because of the way some of these guys are playing. But I'm getting there."

Steyn has taken 419 wickets in his 86 Tests to date and requires just three more scalps in order to pass Shaun Pollock as South Africa's leading all-time Test bowler.
