Cape Town - Proteas speedster Dale Steyn has equalled Shaun Pollock as the highest wicket-taker in South African Test history.
LIVE: Sri Lanka v Proteas - 1st Test, Day 3
The 35-year-old took one wicket on the first day of the first Test against Sri Lanka in Galle on Thursday, taking his total tally to 420 wickets.
Playing in first Test since injuring his heel against January, Steyn struck in the 32nd over when he had Kusal Mendis (24) caught by Kagiso Rabada at mid-on.
That, though, was his only success in Sri Lanka's first innings.
The milestone wicket came on Day 3 when he had Lakshan Sandakan, the final Sri Lankan wicket to fall in their second innings, caught by Temba Bavuma at point for six, to reach the magical 421 mark.
Steyn now needs one more scalp to make the record his own, but will have to wait for the second Test which starts in Colombo on Friday, July 20.
Steyn is playing in his 87th Test, while Pollock played 108 Tests for South Africa.
