Cape Town - Former Proteas batsman Herschelle Gibbs has been named the head coach of the Rotterdam Rhinos, a franchise team from the Netherlands who will participate in the inaugural Euro T20 Slam.

The news was announced on the Euro T20 Slam's official website on Tuesday.

Gibbs has experience of coaching teams in Afghanistan’s domestic T20 league and Kuwait’s national squad.

The Euro T20 Slam, hosted by Ireland, Scotland and the Netherlands, will start in late August with six teams contesting 33 matches.

The Amsterdam Knights, Edinburgh Rocks, Glasgow Giants, Dublin Chiefs and Belfast Titans are the five other franchises.

The competition will feature other South Africans, including fast bowler Dale Steyn, batsman JP Duminy and leg-spinner Imran Tahir.
