Maharaj takes SEVEN wickets in county thriller

Cape Town - Proteas spinner Keshav Maharaj was the talk of the town in Taunton as he played his part in a thrilling County Championship clash on Wednesday.

Maharaj has joined Lancashire on a short-term deal and, on Wednesday, he proved just why he is rated so highly in international cricket.

In a low-scoring match, Somerset started their second innings needing just 78 runs for a victory that seemed almost certain.

Maharaj, though, had other ideas.

Given the new ball, the 28-year-old stunned the batting line-up by taking 7/37 as Somerset were bowled all out for 77 for the match to end in a dramatic tie. It was Maharaj who, appropriately, took the last wicket.

The left-arm orthodox spinner had also shone in the first innings, picking up 4/65, meaning he left with stunning match figures of 11/102

It was the first tie in the County Championship in over 15 years.
