Nortje, Malan shortlisted in IPL auction

Cape Town - Several Mzansi Super League stars have been shortlisted in the Indian Premier League (IPL) player auction, which takes place later this month.

The IPL released their player auction list with a total pool of 346 cricketers set to undergo the hammer in Jaipur on December 18, 2018.

While 1003 players had initially registered, the final list has been pruned after the eight franchises submitted their shortlist of players.

In total there are 26 South African cricketers shortlisted in the 2019 player auction list, which takes place on Tuesday, December 18 in Jaipur.

Several new faces have been shortlisted, partly due to their performance in the MSL, including Cape Town Blitz' Anrich Nortje and Janneman Malan, Jozi Stars' Ryan Rickelton and Pite Biljon, and Tshwane Spartans' Lutho Sipamla.

Former Proteas batsman Colin Ingram was one of the nine overseas players to opt for a the highest bracket (200 Rs Lakhs).

Bowlers Dale Steyn and Morne Morkel, who have each opted for the 150 Rs Lakhs base price, will be hoping to make their return in the IPL.

Proteas skipper Faf du Plessis, Imran Tahir and Lungi Ngidi was retained by the Chennai Super Kings for next year, while the Mumbai Indians completed their transfer of wicketkeeper batsman Quinton de Kock.

The 12th edition of the IPL is set to be held from March 23 after being moved to due to the country's general elections.
