Horschel: The Masters without spectators would be 'unbelievable'

Former FedEx Cup winner Billy Horschel said players have been discussing rumours that The Masters could be played without spectators.

Several sporting events, including golf tournaments, around the world have already been postponed due to the outbreak of coronavirus.

The Masters is due to take place from 9-13 April and last week Augusta National chairman Fred Riley released a statement confirming that The Masters was still going ahead, despite the growing spread of the coronavirus.

However, several reports have suggested that the first major of the year will be played, but with no patrons.

Speaking to the Golf Channel, Horschel said: "People were saying they (The Masters) might not have patrons this year.

"That was a rumor the last couple of days with the players.

"That would be unbelievable to play Augusta with no patrons."

The Masters usually attracts an estimated crowd of 35 000-50 000 fans per day.
