Congressional named as long-term PGA venue

Washington - Congressional Country Club in Maryland will host eight key championships and events over the next two decades starting with the Women's PGA Championship in 2022, the PGA of America said in a statement on Tuesday.

The historic course in Bethesda, near Washington D.C., which hosted the 2011 US Open won by Rory McIlroy, will stage a series of tournaments ranging from junior to senior level in a 15-year period.

The tournament schedule will include the Ryder Cup (2036), PGA Championship (2031), Women's PGA Championship (2022 and 2027), Senior PGA Championship (2025, 2033), PGA Professional Championship (2029) and the Junior PGA Championship (Girls and Boys, 2024).

"This partnership with Congressional Country Club and its membership is monumental in scope and stature, and we are excited to showcase the range of championships and events that the PGA of America has to offer," said PGA of America Interim CEO John Easterbrook.

Congressional's famous Blue Course was designed by Devereux Emmet in 1924, and has been renovated over the years by Donald Ross, Robert Trent Jones and most recently by Rees Jones.

The course will undergo a full restoration, starting in 2019.

Congressional was conceived in 1921 in order to provide members of the United States Congress with a course where they could meet socially with business leaders.
