Frittelli bullish ahead of WGC Match Play debut

Cape Town - Dylan Frittelli will make his WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play debut this week at Austin Country Club and the South African believes he has a chance against anyone.

Frittelli was born in Johannesburg but attended the University of Texas and now lives in Austin.

Despite having never appeared in this particular WGC event and being ranked 133rd in the world this time last year, the 27-year-old is confident heading into the week.

That positive mind-set might have something to do with the two European Tour victories he achieved in 2017 and also his familiarity with the track in Austin.

"I'm happy to play anybody," Frittelli said on Tuesday.

"Knowing the golf course, being familiar with everything and, again, being in good shape, I can take down anybody.

"Dustin's number one in the world and I'm 50th in the world, I'm not worried."

If Frittelli is to overcome the odds and win this weekend, he will first need to make it out of Group Seven which is made up of Sergio Garcia, Shubhankar Sharma and Xander Schauffele.

Thereafter, he could face any of the world's top-10 barring Justin Rose, Rickie Fowler and Brooks Koepka, who are not present this week.
