Eye of Africa finds a new slot on the schedule

Cape Town - The Eye of Africa PGA Championship which is hosted at the Eye of Africa Golf Estate has found a new date on the Sunshine schedule, with the 2019 edition being played from January 31 to February 3, a little earlier than its usual mid-February slot.

“The PGA of South Africa is grateful to Eye of Africa Golf Estate and the Sunshine Tour for once again hosting the PGA Championship in 2019,” said Ivano Ficalbi, Chief Executive of the PGA.

“The PGA Championship has a proud and long history dating back to 1923 and we look forward to the 83rd edition of the Championship over the exciting Eye of Africa layout.”

Chief Operations officer at Eye of Africa, Mark McGovern said: “The Eye of Africa PGA Championship enters its fourth year in 2019 and is scheduled from the January 31 to the February 3. A little earlier than usual but that may avoid the blistering heat and subsequent thunderstorms of past years. We are proud to once again have the opportunity to host this event and our residents have been asking for months for confirmation of the date.”

This tournament has a long history of playoff and close finishes, and we hope the 2019 event will be as exciting. Gary Player, Nick Price, Tony Johnstone, Ernie Els, George Coetzee and Louis Oosthuizen are just some in the long list of players to win this prestigious tournament.

Chief Operating Officer of the Sunshine Tour, Grant Wilson, also added: “The PGA Championship is one of our longest running events and we thank the PGA of South Africa for allowing us to stage this tournament on their behalf.

“Sponsorship is the lifeblood of our Tour and we also thank Eye of Africa for their support and commitment.”
