Injury cuts short Schwartzel's season

Cape Town - South African golfer Charl Schwartzel will miss the rest of the season to rehabilite a wrist injury.

Schwartzel announced the news on his Twitter account in the week leading up to the US Open.

"I've been forced, due to my wrist injury to take the remainder of the season off to give my wrist time to rest and heal," he wrote.

"It's very frustrating but with a long career still ahead of me, I will get this fixed and I look forward to the come back."

With the PGA Tour season ending on August 25, Schwartzel will likely not be action until the end of the year.

The 34-year-old has not played a tournament since his missed cut at the RBC Heritage tournament in April and withdrew from the PGA Championship with a wrist injury.

This break could also potentially ruin Schwartzel's chances of qualifying for December's 2019 Presidents Cup and he'll likely need a wildcard pick from captain Ernie Els.

Schwartzel has played in the past four Presidents Cup events.

The 2011 Masters champion has had a dip in form over the last year, having fallen to 135th in the world rankings.

In 2019, Schwartzel has played in 11 PGA Tour tournaments missing seven cuts and only one Top 10 finish at the Puerto Rico Open.

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
