Stone postpones launch of foundation amid coronavirus outbreak

South African golfer Brandon Stone has postponed the launch of his foundation due to the ongoing coronavirus crisis.

The global outbreak has forced multiple sporting events around the world to be either cancelled or postponed.

Six of the European Tour's events on this season's Race to Dubai have either been postponed or cancelled.

Earlier this month, Stone came close to claiming his fourth European Tour title, but ultimately lost to Finland's Sami Valimaki in a playoff at the Oman Open.

Stone confirmed on Wednesday the postponement of the Brandon Stone Foundation launch, which was scheduled for 7 April at the Royal Johannesburg & Kensington Golf Club.

Stone stated the aim of the foundation will be "to assist the talented youth of South Africa through education and sporting opportunities".

"Unfortunately, the ever-increasing risks associated with the wide spread coronavirus and the guidelines imposed by the South African Government, have led us to the decision to postpone the launch of my foundation, on 7 April 2020 at Royal Johannesburg & Kensington Golf Club," it read.

The 26-year-old added he'll be working with the Royal Johannesburg & Kensington Golf Club to find a new date later this year.

"Everybody's safety is of the upmost importance at this time and we will work with the Club to find a new date for our launch later this year. In this regard we thank you for your support and understanding. From our family to yours, stay safe, look after yourself and your loved ones."
