Southampton - Louis Oosthuizen thanked his lucky stars after he battled his way to stay alive at the 118th US Open at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club.
Oosthuizen shot rounds of 74 and 72 to make the weekend and lie in a tie for 35th on 6-over par, ten strokes adrift of halfway leader, American Dustin Johnson.

The 2010 Open Championship winner admitted that he is not in the best of form and found it extremely troubling to get going in Long Island.
"Yeah, I think we got it very lucky with the weather. This morning didn't look too great and then the rain stopped and the wind died down the last nine holes. It was perfect conditions to score but it's still a tough golf course. You have to hit good shots and play well," Oosthuizen told Sport24 after his round on Friday.
"I'm just not on form at the moment and I'm not swinging it great. It was a battle the whole way and I kept it together nicely but I need to work a bit tomorrow morning until we go and see if I can find something."
Statistics showed that Oosthuizen only managed to hit 64 percent of the fairways with the 35-year-old noting that he's just couldn't drive with any accuracy.
"I drove it terribly and I'm normally a good driver of the golf ball. I didn't hit it where I wanted to, I missed a lot of fairways and around this kind of golf course you need to hit your fairways," said Oosthuizen.
Looking ahead into the weekend, there's no denying that Oosthuizen wants to win the US Open, however he admits that he is a long way back from the red-hot Johnson.
"I need a good Saturday, I need the conditions to get tough and play well. If it stays the way it is now, I'm a long way back," he said.
"I need to play really well but you never know with the US Open. If they firm it up a bit and they tough it and I play very well, I can gain a lot of strokes."
Oosthuizen will tee off on Saturday alongside American Patrick Cantlay at 17:52 SA time.
