Woodland finished on 13-under par, for a three shot victory over compatriot Brooks Koepka.

For his four day efforts, Woodland banked a cool $2.25 million (R33.3 million) and saw his world ranking jump from 25th to 12th.

Only three of the nine South Africans to start the tournament last Thursday made the halfway cut for the weekend.

Louis Oosthuizen was by some distance the top performer among his countrymen, finishing in a tie for seventh on six-under par. Oosthuizen, the world's No 21, took home $367 387 (R5.45 million).

Erik van Rooyen, who has enjoyed a rapid rise up the ranks in the past 12 months and now finds himself comfortably inside the top 100 golfers in the world (at 87th), finished in a tie for 43rd on two-over par. That effort was good enough for the likeable 29-year-old to earn $41 500 (R615 000).

The third and final South African to make the cut was Justin Walters. With respect, the 38-year-old surprised all but himself in finishing at six-over par in a tie for 65th place. Walters, at 338th in the world rankings, banked $23 851 (R353 000) for his four rounds.

The six South African who missed the halfway cut which feel at two-over par were Branden Grace (3-over), Jovan Rebula and Justin Harding (4-over), Dean Burmester (5-over), Ernie Els (6-over) and Merrick Bremner (16-over).
