Cape Town - Romain Grosjean has denied he is using Haas to try and get a seat at Ferrari, but he is still "dreaming" of a drive with the Scuderia.
Grosjean has been one of the season's biggest underperformers, failing to score a single point in the first eight races of the 2018 campaign.
Although he has since improved with three points finishes in his last four races, his seat is under threat at Haas as teams continue to finalise their plans for 2019.
But Grosjean still has lofty ambitions in Formula 1, yet he insists his motivation for joining Haas was not a specific ploy to then try and secure a dream move to Ferrari.
"I still want to try and be world champion," Grosjean told Autosport.
"The one thing that nobody knows is 2021 [when the new regulations come into effect] and I'm hoping there is going to be more chances to win races.
"We'll see what the future's like. I am very happy to be part of it. Haas is the best midfield team now, that's why everyone wants to come here - we are doing amazing and I never came here to go to Ferrari.
"I would never hide the fact that I would dream to go to Ferrari but it wasn't that 'I'm going to Haas to go to Ferrari'.
"Who knows what lies in the future? For now, I like to keep the business going here because I think we've got more we can do."
If anyone is close to joining Ferrari, it is their young star Charles Leclerc who has been in sensational form for Sauber in his rookie season.
And Grosjean himself has been impressed with his impact.
"I didn't know much of him before F2 and obviously he has been really strong in F2 [and] he's done amazing this season," Grosjean added.
"To me, the second season is always harder than the first one - there is no expectation in the first one and then second season there is more expectation, especially if he ends up at Ferrari.
"But that would be interesting to see. As I say, he's doing very, very good and Sauber in general is raising its game big time."
