Semenya smashes another SA record in Morocco

Cape Town - Caster Semenya cruised to a personal best win in the women's 1 000m at the IAAF Diamond League in Rabat, Morocco on Friday evening.

The Olympic 800m champion shattered her own record by stopping the clock in a time of 2:31.01 - eclipsing her previous best of 2:35.43.

American duo Ce'Aira Brown finished second in a time of 2:35.85 and Kaela Edwards in 2:36.13.

It was the perfect tonic for Semenya, who, off the track, has turned to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in her challenge of IAAF rules on testosterone occurring in female athletes that are to be introduced on November 1.

Meanwhile, Dominique Scott-Efurd finished ninth in the women's 5 000m in a time of 15:11.65 as Kenya's Hellen Obiri finished first in a time of 14:21.75.

The third and final South African athlete in action in the north African city, Zarck Visser, finished sixth in the men's long jump with the best jump of 7.79m.

The 10th leg of the IAAF Diamond League takes place in London from July 21-22.
