Van Dyk finishes 5th at Boston Marathon

Cape Town - South Africa's Ernst van Dyk, a 10-time winner of the Boston Marathon Pushrim Wheelchair event, has finished fifth at the 2019 edition of the famous race.

Van Dyk, who was participating in the race for the 20th time, crossed the finish line in a time of 01:27.23.

The event was won by Daniel Romanchuk of the United States in a time of 01:21.36 with Masazumi Soejima (Japan) and Marcel Hug (Switzerland) filling the podium positions.

Romanchuk became the youngest winner of the race at 20 years, eight months and 12 days - and the first American winner since 1993.

Switzerland's Manuela Schar won the women's wheelchair race in a time of 1:34.19.
