2. Greatest sporting moment for that you can recall (in general): Springboks winning the Rugby World Cup 2019

3. Childhood sporting hero: Danie Gerber - may he recover soon! Gary Player

4. Greatest sporting moment personally: Playing my 101st Test at Newlands and being able to run out with my daughters with my wife (pregnant with our son) rest of family and friends in attendance

5. Game or sporting event that you could watch on repeat: My wife keeps saying that I watch all rugby games over and over so I suppose there’s your answer!

6. Sea or river: Sea

7. Chocolate or vanilla: Chocolate

8. Favourite holiday destination: Seychelles

9. Banana or pineapple on a pizza: Avocado. That was an option right?

10. What would your last meal be: Oxtail potjie

11. Favourite super hero and why: The Incredibles. Just so cool to think that your whole family has super powers. All mothers do anyway right?

12. If a movie was made about your life who would play you: I would play myself. Have I not told you about my ambitions to become an actor?

13. 3 things you would want with you on a desert island: Food, family and sun tan lotion

15. Do you have a favourite joke: Yes, Dan Nicholl

16. Best piece of advice you have ever received: Pain is temporary, quitting is permanent

17. Hobby: Golf

18. How does Sport for good relate to you: Sport has an impact on all of our lives whether you are participating or watching but the values of sport and the skills that you learn through it is relevant in everyday life

19. Laureus programme that you have interacted with, and what they do: I’ve done a few things with Coolplay, they are a rugby based programme also focusing on leadership

20. What are you and/or your family doing over this time to ensure you keep mentally and physically healthy? We are fortunate that we have space at home and are trying to exercise every day. It’s the first time that my wife and I can train together but she’s kicking my backside so that’s not good for my ego. I’ve also been impressed with the kids and how active they’ve been in the outdoors

Laureus Sport for Good South Africa

The Laureus Sport For Good Foundation Trust South Africa is a local chapter of the Laureus Sport For Good Foundation. Launched in 2002, SA was the first regional office to be established by Laureus International.

What is the Laureus Sport For Good vision? “Using the power of sport to end violence, discrimination and disadvantage. Proving that sport can change the world”. 

The Laureus Sport for Good Foundation South Africa supports over 30 projects nationwide.

Every programme supported addresses at least one of the following six social issues, which are aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals: 

• Health: Enhancing mental wellbeing and encouraging healthy behaviour change 

• Education: Increased access to and completion of education 

• Women and Girls: Promoting equality, empowerment and safety 

• Employability: Developing skills and creating pathways to employment 

• Inclusive Society: Creating communities which embrace ethnic, cultural and physical differences 

• Peaceful Society: Resolving conflict, promoting community peace-building and creating safe spaces
