Du Plessis cools ‘Champion’ bout talk

Cape Town - Dricus du Plessis’s proposed superfight with Dalcha Lungiambula looks to have fallen through.

The EFC were keen to match up both champ-champs this year, but Du Plessis (12-2) says negotiations are on ice with Lungiambula’s (9-1) camp.

“At this point, that fight is not happening right now, but you never know what happens,” Du Plessis revealed to mmaengage.com.

Du Plessis, who fights out of Team CIT MMA in Pretoria, will make his next appearance in the cage for Poland-based promotion KSW against Borys Mankowski (19-7) on March 23 at the Atlas Arena in Lodz.

As part of his preparations, ‘Stillknocks’ has just started a one-month camp in the US training with the likes of UFC superstars Luke Rockhold (16-4) and Robbie Lawler (28-12) at Hard Knocks 365 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

The EFC welterweight and middleweight king is getting expert tutelage from renowned striking coach Henri Hooft, as well as trainers Kami Barzini, Greg Jones and Tony Villani.

“Luke is amazing. I grappled a few rounds with him and he is a beast!” says Du Plessis.

A few years back the South African MMA standout also did a stint at Tiger Muay Thai in Phuket.

Du Plessis will look to get back in the win column against Mankowski after losing the KSW 77kg belt via knockout to Roberto Soldic (15-3) in a rematch in London in October 2018.

Stillknocks last fought on home soil when he submitted England’s Yannick Bahati (8-4) in August 2017.
