Cape Town - South Africa's butterfly star Chad le Clos has qualified second-fastest for the final of the men's 100m at the FINA World Swimming short course Championships in Hangzhou, China.

Swimming out of Lane 4 in the first semi-final, Le Clos stopped the clock in a time of 49.07.

When all was said and done, Le Clos would up with the second-fastest overall time behind American Caeleb Dressel (48.93) who took out the second semi-final in impressive fashion.

Le Clos is the world record holder in the event, having set the 48.08 mark at the last World Championship in Windsor, Canada in 2016.

Meanwhile, South Africa's Erin Gallagher finished sixth in her semi-final of the women's 100m freestyle (52.70) in a new African record time and qualified for Thursday's final with the seventh-quickest overall time.
