The Cheetahs have confirmed that Springbok star Francois Steyn will join the franchise on a two-year deal.
After reports linked Steyn with a return to Bloemfontein where he represented Free State at junior level, Harold Vester, managing director of Free State Rugby confirmed that the Springbok utility back had indeed signed for the union.
“We are delighted to announce that Frans Steyn has signed a 2-year agreement with the Cheetahs, starting on 1 July 2020”, said Verster.
Steyn attended Grey College in Bloemfontein, before joining the Sharks straight after school in 2006.
In 2009 Steyn moved to France where he played for Racing Metro. After returning to the Sharks in 2012, he the had a stint in Japan before returning to France to play for Montpellier in 2016.
A two-time World Cup winner, Steyn played his first of 67 matches for the Springboks at the age of 19.
“Further to the signing of Frans Steyn, the majority of the players will remain with the Cheetahs for the following season,” added Verster.
