Cape Town - Southern Kings coach Deon Davids says knows "nothing" of reports that he is on a shortlist to become the new Cheetahs coach.
Afrikaans newspaper Rapport stated on Sunday that Davids was being considered as a possible replacement for Franco Smith, who is set to become Italy’s national coach after this year’s Rugby World Cup.
But Davids’ spokesperson told Netwerk24 that he knows “nothing” of the “Cheetahs connection”.
Davids' name has come up ever since Springbok coach Rassie Erasmus visited the franchise on Thursday last week.
Springbok coach Rassie Erasmus, who is believed to rate Davids very highly, has acknowledged that he will play a role in deciding who the next Cheetahs head coach is.
Current Maties coach Hawies Fourie is considered the favourite to take the reins at the Cheetahs, while former director of rugby Rory Duncan has ruled himself out of the running as he continues his coaching role at Worcester Warriors.
