Old SA flag makes unwelcome appearance in Wellington

Cape Town - The old South African flag made an unwelcome appearance at the Westpac Stadium in Wellington on Saturday.

While the Springboks were well on their way to a famous 36-34 victory over their fiercest rivals - the All Blacks - cameras picked up a spectator waving the flag near the players' tunnel.

The flag - which was in use from 1928 until 1994 - represents all that was abhorrent during the days of apartheid and is a symbol of white supremacy for many.

It was replaced in 1994 - some 24 years ago - by the current flag in time for the first elections after the apartheid era had ended.
