SA Rugby: Why Pollard, Lood wore 'wrong' Springbok jersey

Cape Town - Eagle-eyed fans were left puzzled by differing jerseys worn by a handful of Springboks in their Rugby World Cup quarter-final against Japan in Tokyo on Sunday.

Lock Lood de Jager and flyhalf Handre Pollard both took to the field in a version of the Springbok jersey that didn't sport the official World Cup logo.

The jerseys worn by De Jager and Pollard had the Springbok emblem on the right-hand side on the front of their jerseys - which were also missing the Webb Ellis Cup from the right sleeve.

In addition, in the official team photograph prior to the match (below), centre Damian de Allende (top row, far right) is also wearing the incorrectly branded version - but De Jager and Pollard do have on the correct jersey.

When approached for comment, SA Rugby's spokesperson said on Monday: "A mix-up in supply led to the delivery of a small number of incorrectly branded jerseys by which point it was too late to source replacements."

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
