Cape Town - Northampton Saints coach Chris Boyd admits he's uncertain over Springbok scrumhalf Cobus Reinach's future at the club.
Reinach has been heavily linked with a move to French outfit Montpellier, with a recent report in French publication Midi Olympique saying the 29-year-old could earn R790 000 a month at the Top 14 club if he signs for the 2020/21 season.
Reinach is still contracted to Northampton for the 2019/20 season, but some reports have even indicated that Montpellier could be willing to buy him out of the final year of his contract.
The French big-spenders did that when they purchased Louis Picamoles from Northampton in 2017.
But the New Zealander Boyd told the Northampton Chronicle & Echo that he was uncertain of a similar situation playing itself out.
"All of the boys that are going to be out of contract, I will have discussions with those boys about what they want to do in the next two or three years.
"Cobus is coming nearly to the end of his career, he's looking for a big, long contract to finish his career and we've got some young English guys here who are not bad footballers coming through," the former Hurricanes coach said.
Boyd added that Northampton value Reinach as a player but would be open and frank in their discussions with the Springbok.
"It's the easiest way to deal with it. Where there's smoke there's fire, but I don't think at this stage any deal has been done. We certainly haven't re-signed Cobus. I'm still talking to him about what the future might look like."
Montpellier have a number of South Africans on their books,
including the likes of Bismarck du Plessis, Jan Serfontein, Johan
Goosen and Handre Pollard, who arrived this week.
