Blitzboks off to winning start in Vancouver

The Blitzboks have beaten Japan 12-0 in their opening match of the Vancouver Sevens.

It wasn't the most clinical or impressive performance from the South Africans, but the win puts them in a good position in Pool A where fixtures against Argentina and England await.

Tries from Muller du Plessis and Sakoyisa Makata were enough to get the job done in the opening half, and while the Blitzboks could not score again in the second period, they got off to the winning start they needed.

They will take on Argentina next at 23:18 (SA time).

In the pool's other opening match, England beat Argentina 31-0.

After their heroics in America last weekend, the Blitzboks are 2nd in the World Rugby Sevens Series standings, on 89 log points to New Zealand's 93.

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
