Despite leading 17-5 at half-time, the Blitzboks were unable to stop Fiji pulling off an incredible comeback to take the final of the inaugural tournament in Hamilton, 24-17.
However, it's not all doom and gloom for South Africa, as they actually extended their lead on the log to eight points over New Zealand who finished fourth in their home tournament.
The Blitzboks have 77 points, New Zealand 69 and Fiji are third with 62.
This was Fiji's first win in a World Sevens tournament since Hong Kong in 2017, while the Blitzboks have won in Dubai in December and have contested two other finals this year.
