Nairobi - Kenya will be without stand-in captain Oscar Ouma and utility back Billy Odhiambo for next week's Rugby World Cup Sevens in San Francisco.
Ouma, who led Kenya to the finals of the Vancouver and Hong Kong World Sevens series, losing both matches to Fiji, has been ruled out of the 12-man squad due to personal commitments, while Odhiambo is nursing a hand injury.
New caps Samuel Ngethe and Herman Humwa have been drafted in as replacements by Kenyan coach Innocent Simiyu who believes the team could emulate the success of the side that reached the semi-finals in Moscow five years ago.
"We have a very strong squad based on the training," said Simiyu.
"The guys have really trained hard and we believe we have selected the best team that can represent the country. We're looking for good performances from the players and hopefully we can get some good results."
Only four players who were involved in the last World Cup make the squad. They are Andrew Amonde, Collins Injera, Eden Agero and Willy Ambaka.
Kenya will face Tonga in the knockout stage of the World Cup with the winner going on to play Scotland in the last round of 16.
The Kenya squad is:
Oscar Ayodi (Captain), Collins Injera, Andrew Amonde, Willy Ambaka, Samuel Oliech, Nelson Oyoo Dennis Ombachi, Jeff Oluoch, Brian Tanga, Eden Agero, Herman Humwa, Samuel Ngethe.
