Struggling Blitzboks catch a break with Las Vegas draw

Cape Town - After another disappointing tournament, this time in Australia, the Springbok Sevens side caught a break with a straight-forward looking draw for the next stop in Las Vegas.

The Blitzboks finished fifth in Sydney on Sunday, all but relinquishing any hope of defending the title they won the past two seasons.

After just four of the 10 rounds this season, the Blitzboks find themselves a massive 19 points behind joint leaders, New Zealand and the USA.

With just 22 points on offer for the winner of each tournament, the Blitzboks face a nigh-impossible task of clawing back the deficit in the six tournaments that remain.

However, Neil Powell's men will fancy their chances of progressing deep into the Las Vegas stop from March 1-3 when they were drawn alongside England, Japan and a 16th team which was later confirmed to be South American minnows, Chile.

England are currently fifth in the standings, while Japan find themselves in 15th (of the 17 sides to have picked up points). Chile are yet to play a single Sevens match this season.

Victory in their pool will see the Blitzboks face the runners-up in Pool B, either the USA (second), France (12th), Argentina (ninth) or Kenya (13th).
