Bok fans have spoken: Coetzee must fall!

Cape Town - Nobody ever said being a Springbok coach was easy, and Allister Coetzee is having a tougher time than most in what is considered one of the toughest jobs in world rugby.

Coetzee, who took over as Bok coach in 2016, has won just nine of his 22 Tests in charge and has created a long list of unwanted 'firsts' during his tenure.

Under his leadership the Boks had the worst season in their history in 2016, lost at home to Ireland for the first time, lost in Argentina for the first time, lost to Italy for the first time and suffered the worst result in their history when they were smashed 57-0 by the All Blacks in Albany.

Then, last Saturday, Coetzee added another record to his list when the Boks suffered their worst ever defeat to Ireland, going down 38-3.

It has left the coach in the firing line once more and, if a News24 poll is anything to go by, the South African public want him gone.

The question was simple: Following the Springboks' record defeat to Ireland in Dublin, should Allister Coetzee be sacked as head coach?

The result of the vote, which attracted more than 22 000 responses, was overwhelming.

By Tuesday morning 18 231 (82%) of the participants believed that Coetzee should be fired immediately while 2 813 (13%) believed that he should be given until the end of the ongoing northern hemisphere tour to prove his worth.

There were just 1 187 (5%) who believed that Coetzee was the right man to lead the Boks to the 2019 Rugby World Cup in Japan.
