Dalton in advanced talks to make EFC hexagon debut

Cape Town - Former Springbok hooker James Dalton is reported to be in advanced talks with EFC Africa regarding his hexagon debut with the organisation.

Reports suggest EFC president Cairo Howarth and the 47-year-old Dalton are looking at an in-ring debut in the latter part of 2020.

Word on the street is that Dalton will look to compete in both the light heavyweight (84kg-93kg) and heavyweight divisions (over 93kg to 120kg).

The current EFC light heavyweight champion is Cameroon's Simon Biyong, while American Jared Vanderaa rules the roost at heavyweight level.

Dalton, who has a history in boxing and boasts a Jiu Jitsu purple belt, even went as far as to call out former England loose forward James Haskell after he too recently confirmed he was entering the world of MMA.

Dalton said he was prepared to face 77-Test, 34-year-old Haskell "anywhere in the world" in what would be a 'repeat' of last year's South Africa v England Rugby World Cup final.

Dalton, who played 41 Tests for the Springboks - the last of which came in November 2002 - recently published a book, appropriately titled Bulletproof: The James Dalton Story.

Meanwhile, EFC Africa confirmed their first headline bout of the year at EFC 84 at Time Square in Pretoria between undisputed welterweight champion, Zimbabwe's Themba Gorimbo, and undefeated South African challenger Lyle Karam on Saturday, March 14.
