Cape Town - Former Springbok wing Gertjie Brynard passed away at the age of 80 over the weekend.
Brynard’s wife Rhoda, 76, told Netwerk24 that they celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary on November 30, before her husband died the following day.
The speedy wing played seven Tests for the Springboks between 1965 and 1968.
He made headlines in 1965 when he scored two tries against the All Blacks at Lancaster Park in Christchurch, a Test the Boks won 19-16.
Brynard was a medical doctor and spent the final years of his life in the seaside town of Onrus, just outside Hermanus.
