Cape Town - Springbok legend Tendai "Beast" Mtawarira, along with his family, were in the crowd in Orlando on Wednesday as the mighty Los Angeles Lakers came to town.

Mtawarira, a Rugby World Cup winner with the Springboks in Japan early last month, announced his international retirement from the sport shortly thereafter.

Mtawarira, 34, played 117 Tests in the green and gold - the third most to date for South Africa behind Victor Matfield (127) and John Smit (124).

Harare-born Mtawarira also called time on his Sharks career after 159 Super Rugby matches, but opened the door for a move abroad.

Taking time to enjoy a well deserved rest, the Mtawariras were among the spectators at the Amway Centre in downtown Orlando, Florida as LeBron James' Lakers rolled into town - and rolled out of town after a 96-87 win over the Orlando Magic.

James' sixth triple double of the season - 25 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists - went a long way to seeing the Lakers improve their season record to 22-3.
