Bosman will NOT apply for Bulls CEO position

Cape Town - Former Varsity Sports CEO Duitser Bosman has ruled himself out the reckoning for the vacant CEO position of the Blue Bulls Company.

Bosman was last month mentioned as a potential candidate to replace Barend van Graan as CEO of the Pretoria union.

This came after the Bulls announced that Van Graan’s contract would expire at the end of January 2019.

Earlier this week, Bosman posted a philosophical message on Facebook in which he stated that he would not be applying for the role.

He wrote: “I decided against applying for the Bulls 'CEO' job. Personal reasons and exceptionally unique challenges, which could have a special effect in the sports world when I deduct it, brought me to this point after several discussions, deep reflection and lots of prayers.

“I believe the panel will appoint an outstanding person, who will be very successful, because our beloved game needs it.”

In June, Bosman said he would leave his position as CEO of Varsity Sports.

Bosman became the CEO of Varsity Cup from its formation in 2007 and the competition expanded to include the Varsity Shield (2011) and Young Guns (2012) competitions.

In 2013, these rugby competitions were outsourced to ASEM for management. At the same time, Varsity Sports, which eventually incorporated netball, hockey, soccer, athletics, sevens rugby, volleyball, cricket, mountain biking, basketball and a choir competition, was founded.

Earlier this year, the schools component was added to the business, with competitions initially in athletics, netball and sevens rugby. Bosman ended this part of his career as CEO of Varsity Cup, Varsity Sports and School Sports.

Earlier, Titans CEO Jacques Faul was also rumoured to be one of the candidates to replace Van Graan but the cricket boss also distanced himself from the role.

“I am very happy at the Titans, and also very excited about what we are trying to do as a brand and as an internationally recognised Franchise. To that end, I have no plans to leave the Titans, despite speculation suggesting this,” Faul clarified via a press statement late last month.
