Cape Town - Bulls CEO Alfons Meyer has revealed the franchise was contacted by a lawyer probing whether they would be interested in signing former Wallabies star Israel Folau.

"I'm not sure if it is Folau's lawyer, but a lawyer approached us to hear if we are interested in contracting him," Meyer told Netwerk24.
But after careful consideration, the Bulls boss opted against signing the fullback.
"Initially, I was excited but if you look at this matter with a sober mind then it's simply not worth the risk. He is controversial and you'll expose yourself by contracting him."
Folau played 73 Tests for the Wallabies and was Super Rugby's record try-scorer for the Waratahs before his four-year, A$4 million contract was terminated after he posted "hell awaits" gay people on social media.
Rugby Australia and Folau earlier this week agreed to a surprise settlement that ended the former Wallaby's divisive, multi-million dollar lawsuit over his sacking.
The 30-year-old is now looking to rebuild his career but is seemingly struggling to find a team willing to offer him a contract.
