Crusaders boss Robertson dismisses Wales link

Cape Town - Crusaders head coach Scott Robertson has dismissed reports suggesting that he is in the running to take over Wales' coaching reins in 2019.

Media reports in the United Kingdom stated that Robertson, who guided the Crusaders to victory in last year's Super Rugby tournament, is on a shortlist along with fellow New Zealanders Wayne Pivac and Dave Rennie to replace Warren Gatland as Wales' head coach after next year's Rugby World Cup in Japan.

But Robertson seemed genuinely surprised when asked if he has been shortlisted for the Wales position.

"Wowee, I don't know about that," he told Radio Sport.

"I'm not sure where that's come from."

The 43-year-old, who is a keen surfer, added: "Wow, I don't know if they have got a wave pool in Cardiff but it's always flattering to get those opportunities.

"I suppose that is part of the coaching job, when a new job comes up your name is going to be bandied around. No, I haven't heard anything."

Robertson's contract with the Crusaders is up for renewal at the end of the season and he has indicated that he would like to extend his stay with the Christchurch-based franchise.

"Like I said it (the speculation) is flattering," he said.

"But no, I have not heard anything - I am happy here."
