Du Toit turns down offer from Sale Sharks

Cape Town - Stormers and Springbok lock Pieter-Steph du Toit has reportedly turned down an offer to join the Sale Sharks.

Netwerk24 reported on Sunday that the 26-year-old had said no to the English club.

This, however, does not mean that Du Toit, who is equally at home on the flank, will extend his stay with WP Rugby after his contract expires at the end of the 2019 season.

A few other big-name European clubs are also after his services and the offers could make it tough for SA Rugby and Western Province to compete for Du Toit's services.

He has a dual-contract with SA Rugby and WP and the national body's reported plans to scrap Bok contracts in favour of match fees could play a role in his decision to stay in South Africa.

Du Toit was last Thursday confirmed as SA Rugby's Player of the Year for 2018. It was the second time he won the award, having also received the honour in 2016.

Du Toit became only the fifth player since 1992 to claim the crown more than once. The others are Bryan Habana (2005, 2007 and 2012), Schalk Burger (2004 and 2011), Jean de Villiers (2008 and 2013) and Fourie du Preez (2006 and 2009).
