Former Maties star loaned to Bulls

Cape Town - Pumas flyhalf Chris Smith is set to join the Bulls on a short-term deal.

According to Netwerk24, the former Varsity Cup star, who helped Maties to the title in 2018 before joining the Pumas, will join the Bulls until the end of March.

He will provide flyhalf cover for Handre Pollard and Manie Libbok.

With the Bulls' third-choice flyhalf Marnitz Boshoff set to be sidelined through injury until April, the union initially targeted former Sharks pivot Garth April, but he failed a medical after sustaining an injury while playing in Japan.

Bulls high-performance manager Xander Janse van Rensburg confirmed they were also looking at the possibility of re-signing former utility back Tinus de Beer, who only recently left the union to join Griquas.

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
