Cape Town - The Lions, led by an inspirational performance by skipper Malcolm Marx, were full value for their victory over the Sunwolves in Singapore on Saturday.
As it happened: Sunwolves v Lions
Marx was omnipresent as he dotted down for a brace of tries and was also the architect of a number of turnover penalties at ruck-time.
After the final whistle sounded at a largely empty Singapore National Stadium, the Lions were 37-24 victors, having led 12-7 at the break.
Besides Marx's double, the Lions scored five-pointers through scrumhalf Nic Groom, flyhalf Elton Jantjies, centre Lionel Mapoe and replacement loose forward Hacjivah Dayimani. Jantjies was also on target with two conversions and a penalty.
The Sunwolves, who on Friday had their participation in Super Rugby terminated after next year's tournament, replied with a penalty try and a brace by No 8 Rahboni Warren Vosayaco. Flyhalf Hayden Parker added two conversions and a penalty.
The Lions picked up a full-house of five points for their victory and moved to the top of the South African Conference and into second spot in the Overall log.
The Sunwolves left-empty handed and remained fourth and 13th in the Australian Conference and Overall standings, respectively.
In next weekend's Round 7 action, the Lions have a bye, while the Sunwolves travel to Newcastle in Australia to face the Waratahs (Friday, March 29 at 10:45 SA time).
