Bok fullback heading for Wasps exit

Cape Town - Springbok fullback Willie le Roux looks likely to leave English club Wasps at the end of the current European season.

According to the Daily Mail, Le Roux is one of three high-profile Wasps players lined up to leave the cash-strapped club.

Rumours of financial troubles have surfaced in recent months and the lack of new training facilities are believed to be a significant source of discontent for Wasps’ senior players.

The other Wasps players rumoured to depart are utility back Elliot Daly and No 8 Nathan Hughes. Daly is thought to have come to an agreement to join Saracens, while Hughes has been targeted by the Bristol Bears.

The report added that Le Roux is set to take up a contract in Japan - where he previously had a spell with the Canon Eagles.

It was reported late last month that the Bulls were also interested in Le Roux’s services for next year's Super Rugby competition.

Netwerk24 reported that there was tension between Le Roux and Wasps, with the Springbok having missed a large portion of the Premiership while on national duty.

Le Roux is believed to be unhappy because Wasps detract a portion of his salary every time he plays a Test for the Boks.

Le Roux has played 53 Tests for the Boks between 2013 and 2018. However, he did not feature for South Africa in 2017 and was out of the Bok picture when he signed with Wasps.

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
