Naka 'happy and relieved' to be back home

Cape Town - Former Springbok hooker Naka Drotske is back home in Bloemfontein after surviving a shooting ordeal.

Drotske, 47, underwent two successful operations since the shooting incident at his brother’s smallholding outside Pretoria late last month. He was shot in the chest, abdomen and arm.

Drotske’s wife Marzanne Drotske told Netwerk24 that her husband was recovering "fantastically well".

"He is very happy and relieved to be back home. Our dog, Rocky, doesn’t leave his daddy alone for one moment!"

Marzanne said she cried when they left the Montana hospital in Pretoria last Thursday.

"The staff became like family for me."

Marzanne added that she is taking care of Naka at their home, but with "24-hour WhatsApp assistance" from doctor Johan van Beljon.

Drotske won 26 Test caps between 1993 and 1999 and played one game during South Africa's home Rugby World Cup victory in 1995. He also played for London Irish from 2001-2003.

After retiring he coached Super Rugby side the Cheetahs before quitting rugby in 2015 to pursue business interests.

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
