Percy Tau matches Mohamed Salah in AFCON scoring stakes

Cape Town - Bafana Bafana forward Percy Tau has ended the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying campaign on four goals - the same amount as Egyptian superstar Mohamed Salah.

Tau scored a fine brace on Sunday night in Tunisia as South Africa showed character to overcome a brave Libya 2-1 in a Group E clash at the Stade Taieb Mhiri in Sfax.

The result ensures the national team have qualified for the upcoming AFCON in Egypt which is set to take place during June and July.

Meanwhile, Salah, who is a global superstar for Liverpool in the English Premier League, collected a quadruple of strikes as The Pharaohs also progressed to the continental showpiece.

Nonetheless, the former Mamelodi Sundowns star was a major contributor for the Stuart Baxter-coached outfit as he scored four of South Africa’s 11 goals in total during the qualification.

Former Kaizer Chiefs striker Knowledge Musona ended on five for Zimbabwe while Burundi's Fiston Abdul Razak struck six times.

Nigeria's Odion Ighalo was the leading marksman as he scored seven goals for the Super Eagles.

The draw for the main AFCON tournament is set to take place on Friday, April 12 in Cairo.
