WATCH: Baxter leads Bafana celebrations in dressing room

Cape Town - Bafana Bafana have qualified for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in scintillating fashion after beating Libya 2-1 on Sunday.

As it happened: Libya 1-2 South Africa

Star striker Percy Tau’s big match temperament was well documented as his brace secured South Africa’s passage to Egypt in June.

After a goalless first half, the speedy striker took just five minutes into the second half to give South Africa the advantage, although Libya equalised with a controversial penalty kick.

However, Tau and his colleagues were never going to be denied on a hostile evening in Tunisia.

Tau’s first goal was a superb strike from outside the box while his second had pace and precision that gave the Libyan goalkeeper no chance.

Every player contributed, none more so than outstanding goalkeeper Darren Keet who made several saves throughout the match.

The back four, well marshaled by captain Thulani Hlatshwayo, resembled the old Berlin Wall in which Sifiso Hlanti, Buhle Mkhwanazi and Thamsanqa Mkhize as well as Innocent Maela put their bodies on the line.

Dean Furman was rock solid in the midfield alongside Kamohelo Mokotjo, while Themba Zwane and Lebogang Mothiba never stopped running.

After the final whistle, Stuart Baxter led the dressing room celebrations with famous South African chants.

Meanwhile, the draw for the tournament will take place on Friday, April 12.
