Cape Town - Leonardo Jardim is hoping for a better Champions League showing from his side this time around after failing to make it out of the group stages last season.
The Ligue 1 runners up failed to record a win in a group comprising of Besiktas, Porto and RB Leipzig.
This term, Monaco have an arguably tougher assignment, having been drawn alongside Atletico Madrid, Club Brugge and Borussia Dortmund in Group A.
They kick off their campaign against Atletico at the Stade Louis II on Tuesday.
But if their league form is anything to go by, then it will be an uphill struggle for Jardim's side, who have won just one of five league games.
Ahead of the clash, the manager told the Ligue 1 site: "The Champions League is always a very difficult competition.
"Last year we were not good enough to compete at this level. I hope our performances are better this year. Our objective is to do our best with the players we have, to always be ambitious, have the right attitude."
