Spurs ease past APOEL

London - Tottenham Hotspur advanced to the knockout stages of the UEFA Champions League after a comfortable 3-0 victory over APOEL at Wembley on Wednesday.

Spurs were largely in control throughout and went 2-0 up with goals from Fernando Llorente and Son Heung-Min in the first-half.

The hosts hit the front in the 20th minute when Llorente struck home from Serge Aurier's cross after a period of pressure. Just before the goal, Jesus Rueda had cleared off the line from  Georges-Kevin N'Koudou.

The momentum continued in Spurs' favour as Son scored the Londone sides second in the 37th minute from a Llorente pass.

After a smart one-two between the two forwards, the South Korean star fired a powerful effort beyond goalkeeper Nauzet Perez to double their advantage.

The dominance continued in the second stanza, although APOEL came close to getting a goal back. Vouros was aggressive though his goal-bound shot was diverted wide by Danny Rose.

Mauricio Pochettino's charges were in the ascendancy throughout and saw efforts from Son and Llorente go close. In particular, the Spanish forward failed to make contact with the goal at his mercy.

Nonetheless, they secured the comfortable win in the 80th minute.

Having gone on a run through Apoel's defence, N'Koudou slotted home beyond Perez as Spurs eased into the last 16.
