Brugge could hand Mignolet an escape route

Cape Town - Club Brugge manager Ivan Leko has hinted at making a move for Liverpool's second-choice goalkeeper Simon Mignolet in the off-season.

The Blauw-Zwart finished second in their domestic league and will enter the Champions League at the third qualifying round stage.

Leko acknowledges that current number one Ethan Horvarth had a good campaign but he admits that Mignolet is the sort of player his club should be looking to sign.

"Horvath has made a lot of progress," Leko told Het Nieuwsblad.

"He took points too, didn't he? Of course, someone like Mignolet is a different story."

The Croatian coach confirmed to Het Nieuwsblad that Club Brugge has inquired about the services of the 31-year-old Belgium international, who is under contract at Anfield until 2021.

Some reports at the weekend suggested Liverpool would be looking for a substantial fee, in the region of £15 million, for his services.

Meanwhile, Liverpool are preparing for their Champions League final against Tottenham where Mignolet is expected to be named in the matchday squad.

The fixture is scheduled for Saturday, June 1.
