Hammers keen to take Higuain on loan

Cape Town - West Ham United manager Manuel Pellegrini is reportedly eyeing a loan move for Juventus striker Gonzalo Higuain, as he looks to bolster his attacking options.

The Hammers are in the market for attacking reinforcements after selling Marko Arnautovic and Lucas Perez over recent weeks, while they released Andy Carroll at the end of last season.

Jordan Hugill and Javier Hernandez are currently the only senior strikers within Pellegrini's squad and speculation continues to link the latter with a move away from the club.

West Ham remain hopeful of signing Maxi Gomez from Celta Vigo, although those talks have stalled after the two clubs failed to agree on a payment structure for the player's £45 million release clause.

Gomez now appears more likely to join Valencia and, as a result, West Ham have turned their attention to former Argentina international Higuain, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Chelsea, but was considered a disappointment after scoring just five goals in 18 appearances.

That seemingly hasn't put West Ham off, as the Hammers are pursuing a loan deal with a view to buy the former Real Madrid forward outright next summer.

One stumbling block could be the size of that future fee, as Juve want to set the clause at £36million, which is likely to be more than West Ham are willing to pay even if Higuain thrives at the London Stadium.
