Injury crisis hits Liverpool squad

Cape Town - Liverpool are suffering with something of an injury crisis with Jordan Henderson, Dejan Lovren, Joel Matip and Joe Gomez all likely to miss Saturday's clash with Brighton.

The Reds appear to need a win at the AMEX Stadium having lost back-to-back matches against Manchester City and Wolves in the Premier League and English League Cup respectively.

The Merseyside giants still enjoy a four point gap over City at the top of the table though they will be without the four key performers against the Seagulls.

According to The Telegraph, Henderson has a calf concern and faces a late fitness test to determine whether he could play a part against Brighton.

Meanwhile Lovren has a hamstring issue, Matip is battling with a collarbone concern whereas Gomez has a leg injury.

Manager Jurgen Klopp said of the injury crisis: "Joel (Matip) trained yesterday first time with the team, which is already really good but we have to see.

"We have to decide day-by-day how he is doing. He feels good, that's good for us.

"Hendo (Jordan Henderson) will train today, first time, and we will see what that means exactly. Adam (Lallana) out. Dejan (Lovren) out. Joe (Gomez) of course out."

With the players out, it is believed Fabinho will continue in central defence, having played the role during Liverpool's FA Cup defeat against Wolves.

He will be partnered by the impressive Virgil van Dijk, who has missed just one EPL match since making his debut for the Reds last January.
