Cape Town - Inter Milan have reportedly offered out-of-favour midfielder Joao Mario to Newcastle United, after Everton turned down the chance to sign him.
The Portuguese star has already had one spell in England with West Ham United, but the loan deal did not work out and he ended up returning to the San Siro ahead of schedule.
Inter are keen to move him on this summer and a return to English shores could be on the cards, with Everton linked with a switch in recent weeks.
The Toffees are said to have declined the opportunity to sign him and that could open up the door for the Magpies to strike a deal as they look to bolster their midfield.
There is a chance that Isaac Hayden and Jonjo Shelvey could be on the move and Mario could be seen as the ideal replacement.
He will not come cheap, though, with reports claiming the Italian side are looking for a fee in the region of £18 million.
