Jorgensen still miffed at failed Toon move

Cape Town - Feyenoord striker Nicolai Jorgensen has revealed he is still annoyed that his "dream" transfer to the Premier League failed to materialise in January.

The Denmark international was a target for Newcastle United boss Rafael Benitez at the turn of the year after an impressive first 18 months at De Kuip.

Jorgensen bagged 21 goals in his debut season in the Eredivisie to help Giovanni van Bronckhorst's side to a first championship title since 1999.

The Tynesiders lodged a £15 million bid for the 27-year-old, but the fee was not deemed sufficient by Dutch champions, who decided not to sell in the end.

Jorgensen admits he missed out on one of his footballing ambitions, telling Danish media outlet Tips Bladet: "It was a little annoying.

"Of course, it is always nice to know that there is a club that will pay so much money for one, so of course it gave me confidence, but at the same time a little bit of sigh.

"It is of course a big dream for me to end up in such a league."

However, the Dane insists he bears no grudge against his club, adding: "It is okay. I'm really happy to be in the club so there is nothing there.

"The only reason I was a little down was because it was a dream like all football players."
