Pogba turned down Real Madrid for United return

Cape Town - Manchester United star Paul Pogba has revealed that Real Madrid attempted to hijack his move to Old Trafford in 2016.

The France international graduated from United's youth academy in 2011 and went on to make seven first-team appearances before joining Juventus under a cloud the following year.

Pogba enjoyed a trophy-laden four seasons at the Juventus Stadium and where he developed into one of the world's best midfielders.

This led to interest from Red Devils boss Jose Mourinho and an eventual deal ahead of the 2016/17 campaign.

However the 24-year-old admitted that he was also approached by Los Blancos, who had just won their 11th European crown.

Pogba revealed that he had to "listen to his heart" to make a decision that he is happy with after United won the EFL Cup and the Europa League.

"To be honest, Real Madrid came to me and I was thinking to go there, and I was thinking to go to Manchester United too," Pogba told the Beyond the Pitch podcast.

"But I always felt it in my heart. My heart told me to come back here (Manchester), I don't know why, I didn't know what was going to happen. But I did it, and I don't regret. I never regret my choice."
